Walta Gamoian is an experienced educator who taught at Golden West High School, where she was involved in many areas of school life. Her passion was connecting all students with meaningful activities at school.

She held high academic standards, guided by her core belief that all students can and will achieve at high levels. After teaching, Walta was elected to the Visalia Unified School Board.

Supported phonics, the science of reading, and a writing program as student reading scores continue to rise.

Helped increase the number of students who qualify for college entrance and automatic-admission opportunities at UC Merced, Fresno State, Sonoma State, and University of the Pacific.

A stronger math curriculum

Supported adoption of a new math curriculum along with a three-year high school math requirement.

Fiscal responsibility

Maintained positive certifications for the district’s annual budget and helped refinance outstanding bonds, saving taxpayers millions of dollars.

A long-range facilities plan

Advanced a long-range plan to update school technology, strengthen Career Technical Education spaces, and modernize aging buildings.

Expanded parent engagement through online access and greater curriculum transparency.
